Elizabeth “Izzy” Martin, Chair of the MWCA, is the CEO of The Sierra Fund. Izzy lives in Grass Valley, California. Izzy is an organizer and advocate with thirty-five years of experience working in rural communities to promote economic and environmental justice. Izzy worked for two decades with farm workers, farmers, and environmentalists to develop pioneering programs to promote organic agriculture and reduce community exposure to pesticides. While serving as Nevada County Supervisor (1999 – 2003) Izzy led the fight in the legislature to put the Yuba River into the state’s wild and scenic river system, spearheaded the effort to clean up an abandoned mine in her district, and began a successful five-year campaign to establish the Sierra Nevada Conservancy. Izzy conceived of and directs The Sierra Fund’s Mining Initiative, working to assess and address mining’s toxic legacy. Izzy has attended Lark in the Morning Music and Dance Camp since 2004, and has served on the board of the MWCA since 2007.
Danese, has served on many non-profit Boards as both a director and an officer, mostly in the technology sector where she is a longtime advocate of open source software. She is currently Chairwoman of the Node.js Foundation, a Director on the board of the Drupal Association, and Vice President of the Mendocino Woodlands Campers’ Association. In her professional career, Cooper has held many leadership roles at managed teams at companies including Apple, Microsoft, Symantec, Sun Microsystems and Intel. She also served as Chief Technical Officer for the Wikimedia Foundation (home of Wikipedia). She currently works for PayPal as their Head of Open Source and also runs DaneseWorks, a successful consultancy to companies wishing to pursue open source strategies. Now that her 4 children are grown, her hobbies include knitting, beekeeping and playing Irish and English music on mandolin. She has attended Lark in the Morning Camp at the Woodlands for more than 20 years. Danese lives in San Francisco, California.
Carol Krop, Secretary of MWCA, has been a Mendocino Woodlands Camper for 16 years. Carol joined the board in 2011 with the desire to assist in the preservation and progress of the Woodlands. She lends her expertise to the board as an Engineer who has worked for 25 years in Environmental Project Management.
Michele, Treasurer for MWCA, has spent the past decade in a variety of sales and operations management roles in Silicon Valley, and the prior decade serving industry, educational, and nonprofit clients as a strategic and operational advisor. She has managed numerous complex projects, and even businesses, from concept to successful implementation. Michele holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU). In addition to her professional credentials, she has had a long commitment and involvement with numerous civic and community organizations in planning and leadership roles. Michele lives in San Francisco, California.
Laurin is semi-retired from 26 years in the Solano County Sheriff’s Department. Laurin lives in an unincorporated area north of Vacaville, California on 2.7 acres in an adobe house, which his wife and he built themselves. Laurin has 2 adult children and 4 (soon to be 5) grandchildren.
Donna has been a teacher or education administrator for over 30 years. Donna also served for 6 years as a NCAA Women’s Basketball Official. Donna lives in Mill Valley, California. Donna and her husband, Russel, have one child.
Elizabeth co-directs Lark In The Morning, an international mail order music business; co-directs Lark Camp World Music and Dance Camp; is a professional musician, dance leader and recording artist; co-directs the Mendocino English Country Dance Series; and is on the board of directors of the non-profit corporation “Institute For Traditional Studies.” Elizabeth lives in Mendocino, California. Elizabeth is married to Mickie Zekley, and has a son Corwin Zekley and step-daughter Marina Zekley.
Debra has operated her catering company, Good Thyme Catering, for over 30 years. Debra lives in Mendocino, California. Debra has been coming to the Woodlands for over 40 years, originally as a member of the public and then as one of the original caterers for many of the Woodlands camper groups. Debra also produced and directed three camps at the Woodlands over the years. In addition, Debra created a second business producing gourmet herb blends, wrote and self-published a cookbook for using the blends, and for 12 years she produced GRASSROOTS GOURMET, a monthly radio show on the local PBS station.
Kevin Blackburn is the Assistant Vice President Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco an $87 billion wholesale bank. Mr. Blackburn works with Members of Congress and their staffs, state and national trade organizations in banking, residential construction, affordable housing and consumer groups to educate them on the role the FHLBanks play in mortgage finance, community economic development, and affordable housing development. Kevin is the immediate past president of MWCA a where he led the organization for 5 years. He also serves as Treasurer of Tabernacle Community Development Corporation, an affordable housing developer based in San Francisco and as Secretary of Alternative Family Services, a Foster Family Agency that serves children and youth throughout northern California. Kevin lives in San Francisco, CA.
Marty has been camping at the Woodlands with the Unitarian Universalists Family Camp for almost 30 years. Marty is currently an Orff Music Teacher in both public school and private settings. Marty felt compelled to become part of the board to pay back the many years of community and beauty the Woodland has provided to her and her family. Marty lives in San Francisco, California.
Mickie is an accomplished musician and master of many instruments. Mickie is the founder and co-director of Lark In The Morning, an international mail order music business and Lark Camp World Music and Dance Camp. Mickie is also a musical instrument collector, and a videographer specializing in traditional music and dance. Mickie lives in Mendocino, California with his wife Beth.
